Since 1999, Gamma Engineering has been engaged in the development of advanced silicon
carbide duplex cladding for possible use in current and future generation commercial nuclear
reactors. The objective has been to develop, test, and eventually license and install,
an advanced ceramic cladding material that can be used in place of current zirconium
alloys, and thereby extend the burnup, increase the heat rating, and improve the
durability of light water reactor fuel cladding materials. The effort directly supports the
nuclear fuel development goals in the Strategic Plan for LWR Research and Development
recently issued jointly by the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Department of Energy.
In 2005, Gamma Engineering formed a new, joint venture company with Innovative Technologies
International (NovaTech) to continue the development and commercialization of the ceramic cladding. Ceramic
Tubular Products, LLC is that joint venture company.
